It is very easy to fall into fearful thoughts about the future of humanity on our planet, about the forces that are trying to divide us and draw lines between us, the ones that are trying to replace us before we even know who we truly are, distracting us from our humanness and the incredible gifts that come with it, and our ability to compassionately and deeply connect with each other.
But our power does not lie in fear. In fact, we are constantly encouraged to feel fear, because in fear we can be controlled, we begin to compete with each other, hate each other, accept the lines and borders that keep us separate, we get involved in wars, take the side of one nation at the expense of another, shed tears for dead children in one country while closing our eyes to the suffering of children on the other side, and in doing so little by little we forget our essence and give away our power of creation, imagination, love, forgiveness, and compassion.
The narrative of fear may grow louder, but we have the power to turn its screams down, down, down, by recognizing that it is not real; it is not who we are. It only appears when we feel disconnected from our true selves, when we forget our inherent wisdom, power, and our ability to unconditionally love and forgive.
My practice these days is to remind myself to shift my perspective from the loud noise of fear in the outside world to my peaceful, quiet, infinite sanctuary within. We can only win the game of fear if we choose not to play it.
